Sir Michael Parkinson’s Rant about Jade Goody

- Parky’s Rant about Jade -

Who rattled Parky’s cage? - Why the highly inappropriate, vitriolic attack against Jade?

Why is a supposedly high class presenter like him even bothered to address the seedy, lower class, low-life existence of reality TV?

His outburst was ill timed and extremely bad manners. To be honest it shocked me. Sure, we are all entitled to our own opinion but why ram it down our throats in the way in which he chose to present his argument? And why on earth, so soon after Jade’s funeral?

Now, I myself am not keen on Parkinson’s way of presenting, I find him boring, not relevant and on one level. That’s not to say my opinion is right, but it is however, my opinion.

Opinions are OK and fine when the timing is right and in this instance it certainly wasn’t.

Sir Michael (Holier-Than-Thou) Parkinson has certainly lowered himself considerably in my estimations. Attacking a recently deceased person so soon after her funeral.

He said: “Jade has her own place in the history of television and, while it’s significant, it’s nothing to be proud of. Her death is as sad as the death of any young person, but it’s not the passing of a martyr or a saint or, God help us, Princess Di”

“When we clear the media smoke screen from around her death, what we’re left with is a woman who came to represent all that’s paltry and wretched about Britain today.

“She was brought up on a sink estate, as a child came to know both drugs and crime, was barely educated, ignorant and puerile. Then she was projected to celebrity by Big Brother and from that point on became a media chattel to be manipulated and exploited until the day she died.”

- - -

Well he’s got that totally wrong and that is exactly why Sir Michael Parkinson, 74, is not relevant. He comes from another era. How could he possibly understand what reality TV stands for on a cultural level? And does he not understand that’s exactly why people put themselves forward for the shows.

They are after their 15 minutes of fame and in Jade Goodie’s case; a whole lot longer. There was no manipulation and no exploitation except maybe by Jade herself and by the many other winners and runners-up.

She knew how to handle the media and press and was very clever at keeping herself active in the public spotlight and giving her public what they wanted.

What it comes down to in the end, was the fact that her public loved her, plain and simple and why on earth shouldn’t she be spoken about in the same breath as Princess Di? She was just as inspirational in fact probably moreso. She was the accessible face of success.

Maybe Parky is taking into consideration her lower class. Class snobbery and holier-than-thou attitude from a Prehistoric presenter with a title slapped in front of his name is pretty unforgivable.

Shame on you Parky! for using Jade’s name to get yourself a shabby five minutes of media interest.-

He may have five minutes of media interest, and maybe that pleases him, but he’s got them for being an idiot, and speaking ill of the recently deceased is just absolutely disgraceful. I too find him to be incredibly boring, and think that it’s interesting that he’s decided to compare Jade’s passing to that of Princess Diana’s, suggesting that Prince Diana’s death was of far greater significance/importance.

Why does he believe Princess Diana’s death to be of such greater significance? Because she did work for charity and was a ‘down to earth’, accessible former royal? Does he not think that Jade has done a brilliant job in saving many lives in raising the awareness of the importance of cancer testing? What about showing that with drive and determination you can achieve success, no matter what your class or educational background may be? Apparently that counts for very little in the eyes of Mr Parkinson I take it?

It’s not a good thing to want to better yourself, Parky? Not a fantastic thing to do to raise the awareness of the importance of cancer testing so massively? That’s not something to be proud of?

The work that Jade has put in will help save lives for many years to come, and although she may have done wrong in her lifetime; she always did strive to put things right, and her bravery and courage in her battle with cancer was surely a fantastic example for all.

Parkinson himself has surely shown great ignorance here. His arguments are ill-informed, his decision to speak ill of the dead so soon after their passing is disgraceful, and his blatant display of absolute class snobbery is absolutely disgusting.

This is certainly a very interesting article here, and I can definitely see why you chose to write about this. What he’s said makes me angry too, and I agree that what he has come forward in saying here is just absolutely unforgivable.

what work exactly has she put in that can be compared to of Jane Tomlinson? how on earth can you say she has done more than diana you are the one being ignorant mate! Princess Diana did all of her charity work when she was a healthy woman who could have done anything else, but decided to help others. Do you think jade goody would have done anything had she not been ill? she was a pointless celebrity, reality tv is not important, its just entertainment so what on earth are you talking about sayin parky doesnt know the importance of it? that just makes me laugh!! are you honestly that affected by it that much? if you are you seriouly, seriously need to get a life!

It is sad that she died, of course it is. But she is being hailed as a saint by people like you and that is wrong.
    Get a grip mate
