Lauren Luke Youtube Make-Up Artist - Make-Up Internet Phenomenon with over 30 Million Hits
- panacea81 - Lauren Luke - The Twilight Look -
From her small drab bedroom in South Shields, near Newcastle, UK, which has recently been decorated thanks to an advance from an American Company, Lauren Luke, 26, sits surrounded by an array of different shade palettes to bring the World Wide Web the very latest in celebrity make-up fashion with her live tutorials.
Working on a very old computer with worn keys, this very ordinary, northern woman has captured the imagination of nigh on 32 million users since 2007. Going under the user-name of: panacea81, she has become one of the biggest and most famous attractions on Youtube.
It has even surprised her just how big her nightly sessions on Youtube have become. It started off as just something to do, but she soon realised that people were actually watching her do it. The supportive comments on Youtube began flooding in from day 1 and quite often brought Lauren to tears.
She seemed quite genuinely surprised that people would actually find her putting on make-up in the least bit interesting. It was just a hobby to her and slowly but surely she saw her Internet traffic grow. With 170,000 subscribers to date, she says her first time was “very scary” and she “trembled in her chair”.
She says she wants to make a “huge change to the beauty industry”. Having her own make up line is something that Lauren has always dreamt of and she hopes her tutorials will give people the confidence to experiment with different colours and looks.
Lauren Luke is a very modest young woman. Very down to earth, with a young son, and struggling to make ends meet. Although she has had those amazing millions of hits from her Youtube traffic, she wasn’t actually making any money from it.
But now that has all changed and she has caught the eye of some very influential people. –
Lauren Luke is one of the first users of Youtube to have been made a Youtube partner here in the UK. She was offered a job with the Guardian newspaper doing her own beauty features column and has also been commissioned by UK based Cosmetics Company Barry M’s to create exclusive make up looks for his website.
She also seems to have hit the big time with an American Company who is launching her very own make-up line of which she is the name and the figure-head of her own signature make up brand.
It all seems so far away from the northern town that she grew up in and Lauren now spends her time flying over to New York with her mother, to approve the colours and name the presentation boxes of her new collection and then back home to reality again.
She has appeared on US TV where she gave make up tips live on the CBS Morning show. She has also appeared on TV and in many publications here in the UK and has also had several documentaries made around her success.
She has met the Queen and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at the Google head office in London and she is busy working on her own website By Lauren Luke where you can find all her all of her video tutorials, news and information on her new make-up line.
Nintendo DS have now picked her up and she will star in a new Game due to be released in May 2009. The future is looking very rosy for this Youtube celebrity.
She started her cosmetics life on Ebay, selling make-up and found the best way to promote it was to show a picture of herself with the make-up on. The Youtube foray was the next natural progression for her she said.
Lauren can hardly believe all this has happened from her humble beginnings on her Youtube make-up sessions in the virtual anonymity from the safety of her small bedroom.
Under confident after being bullied at school when her peers called her fat and ugly, she is now finding her feet in the glamorous world of cosmetics. Her flame red, bottom length hair, her chubby appearance and her very down to earth attitude are endearing qualities in the hardened, corporate business world.
She is now a world wide sensation with global appeal and probably the most famous make-up artist on the planet.
Lauren Luke is like a breath of fresh air. Her personal approach from day 1 is what has set her apart from the norm and what should bring her continued success as her cosmetics empire grows. –

It really is incredible the success she’s achieved through YouTube, and having a Nintendo DS game made about her too! It’s amazing really. She’s still the same down to earth northern woman she always was, and yet now she’s got her own line of cosmetics in the pipeline, she’s to star in her own video game, and she’s even been picked up by the Guardian! The power of the internet indeed!
It’s terrible that she never made any money from getting all those hits on YouTube, but being so popular on YouTube has ultimately led to her achieving great success elsewhere, and it’s just brilliant that such a down to earth woman has become so famous.
This is another absolutely brilliant article from you here, and on a very interesting subject too. You’re such a talented writer and it really does make me so proud reading your work. I love reading your writing. Can’t wait to read your next one now!
