Baby Savaged and Killed by Family Jack Russell and Staffordshire Bull Terrier – Tragedy Baby Killed by Dogs - Should Dogs and Children Co-habit together? Time to Re-address this Question in the Wake of Baby Killed by Family Dogs

-Tragedy- Baby Killed by Dogs -

I could barely bring myself to listen to this news item as the news broke earlier today. Jaden Mack, a 3 and a half month old baby boy was set upon by his grandmother’s two dogs earlier this morning.

A Jack Russell and a Staffordshire bull terrier ripped this young life apart; though this has yet to be officially confirmed by the results of the post Mortem.

The grandmother went running from the house screaming, “The baby is dead”. “He is dead”. A neighbour rushed to her aid and tried to give the kiss of life to the savaged baby, but it was too late.

The grandmother who lives near Caerphilly, South Wales was looking after the baby for the night for the parents when the tragedy struck.

At 12.15 on 7/02 the emergency services rushed to the scene where they took the young victim to the nearby Prince John hospital where the baby was pronounced dead on arrival.

Both the Jack Russell and the Staffordshire bull terrier have since been put down.

In 2006 a 5 month old baby from Leicester, UK was attacked and killed by 2 Rottweilers in a pub which the parents were caretaking whilst the managers of the pub were on holiday.

Only last year, a 5 year old girl from Thomasville, GA was savaged and killed by her family’s three pit bull terriers while she played in her yard and also last year a 5 year old boy from Weslaco is in Hidalgo County, was killed by 2 stray dogs as he played.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Dog attacks are all too common and young children should never be left unsupervised with a dog.

An RSPCA Vet said that one of the problems is certain breeds of dangerous dogs in high demand in the UK are seen as ‘Status Symbols’. Reinforcing the popularity and perpetuation of the breed

He went on to say that a dog is a pack animal and any breed could be liable to attack when there is more than one present. Certain breeds of dog have very powerful jaws and will lock their teeth when in an attack.

To demonise a breed is treading on dangerous ground, but the strength, power and character of certain breeds needs very careful consideration before taking into a family home.

A tragedy that should never be allowed to happen again; Laws surrounding dangerous dogs and dog control have got to be re-addressed in the wake of this terrible tragedy…

The final word comes from the Police, who warn, “Never leave young children alone with dogs”.

It really was horrible when this news broke, wasn’t it. It’s just one of those news stories that you really don’t ever want to hear.

Dogs can definitely be very dangerous, and the laws surrounding such dogs certainly do need to be re-addressed. I think the police have put it very well in stating that children should never be left alone with dogs; it’s just too risky to do so, and anyone that does leave their children alone in the company of dogs is treading very dangerous ground.

An excellent news post from you again here; not a very nice subject at all, but you’ve certainly covered it very well.

So so easy for everyone just to blame the animals hey, what the hell in the first place was a little baby like that left unattended? Staffies are very good family dogs and unless they are bought up incorrectly they would never do something like this to a child. But hey we dont know what goes on behind close doors so the easiest thing is to point fingers at the animals! I hope this woman never owns another dog again cause due to her ignorance these two dogs had to be killed and a lil boys life lost.

    Lauren,

Whilst I have to agree with you on the supervisory issue, I also feel that there are ‘certain’ breeds of dogs which do not make suitable ‘domestic’ pets.

I’m not able to understand the act of Grandmother who left the innocent little soul with the dogs, even scary enough to imagine. I love dogs especially Rottweilers and I have one I could swear by him. From my personal experience and others I believe that it is just a common sense not to leave you child unattended with dogs, dogs have the strong outer but when raised with love they always remain like pure little child no matter what’s their breed. Owners shouldn’t take their strength for granted and respect their powerful abilities. The stupidity of the particular woman and parents of the deceased child took three lives.
