The 20 years of substance abuse have undeniably taken their toll on Whitney Houston’s looks and we are soon to find out if the tragic events since her metaphoric rise to fame have all but destroyed her voice.
A glittering career brought to an untimely halt; her rare talent lost to Spousal and substance abuse and her fans robbed of a powerful and unique songstress.
Whitney Houston is due to release her first album in seven years and it will be interesting to see if she still has the same old magic which saw her shine brightly in the film ‘The Bodyguard’ co-starring, Kevin Costner.
Her ravaged appearance and disorientated state have left her fans fearing for her life. It’s hard to imagine that Houston would ever be stable enough to perform in public ever again. The years have not been kind to this once adored singer. Her face and skin leathered by years of drug intake and bad living.
Her rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ in The Bodyguard took this singer straight to our hearts with her truly amazing vocals. Her break-up from her destructive relationship with husband Bobby Brown was the incentive she needed to clean up her act and to try and resurrect her shattered career.
Whitney Houston is due to perform live at this year’s pre-Grammy party, on February 7 at the Beverly Hilton which is hosted by Clive Davis. “Barring any physical ailments,” as stated by Houston.
This comeback appearance heralds a new beginning for Houston and her attendance will be eagerly anticipated by her loyal fans and scrutinised closely by her critics. She will perform brand new tracks from her album which comes out in March.
Other performers on the night will be: Sean Combs, Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, Jazmine Sullivan and a tentative, Jennifer Hudson. If Ms Hudson does attend, this will be only her second public appearance since the tragic murders of her mother, brother and nephew last year.
Ms. Houston was due to perform at this event last year alongside fellow superstars, Leona Lewis, Wyclef Jean, Josh Groban, Alicia Keys and Andrea Bocelli, but had to cancel due to a death in her family.
Let’s hope there will be no cancellations this year and we get to witness the return of legendary Soul Diva, Whitney Houston. The pre-Grammy party is the music industry’s hottest party in town and with the official comeback performance of Whitney Houston; it could possibly be the hottest one to date. -

She looks dreadful! It’s such a shame what happened to her career, it’ll certainly be interesting to hear a new album from her though, and let’s just hope it’s a good one!
It’ll be brilliant for her to appear at the Pre-Grammy Party too, it’ll be nice to hear her perform some of her new tracks, and all eyes (and ears) will be pointed in her direction to see if she still has that same fantastic voice. I hope she blows everyone away with her performance, it’d be an excellent return to form for her, and such a confidence booster too.
It certaintly sounds like it will be a great evening, and I think you’re right; it could well be the hottest Pre-Grammy Party to date!
Another absolutely brilliant article from you here. I really did thoroughly enjoy the read, and loved reading about the return of Whitney Houston. This is clearly something that you have a great interest in, and that has therefore come across in your writing. A brilliant blog post from you as always, and as ever I was really impressed with your work, and it made me incredibly proud to read it.
You’re an excellent writer, and every time you post on this blog you impress me with your talent, and always have me interested in what it is that you have to say. You’re a brilliant blogger, and a truly phenomenally talented writer.
Regarding her appearence at the 2009 Grammy awards, I was pleased to hear she is attempting to make a comeback. Unfortunately she appeared to be un-sober when she was on stage the night of the awards. I thought she was going to fall down during her presentation. I was reading on Fox News that she had a great night while performing for Clive Davis and that she was clean and sober. It’s amazing what another shot at fame causes celeberties to return to.
It’s sad to see how the media loves to create a hype about nothing really! She looks great, sings good, divorced that ugly guy and that’s just about it. Can’t wait to hear her new cd.
She looked like she could be placed in the same category as Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. Women who are in their 60’s. Whitney sounded terrible. Jamie Fox and all of the other Celebrities were perpetrating a fraud acting as if they enjoyed her trying to sing her own songs. Crack is truly wack and she is a living example. She needs help and once this CD bombs and it will she will head right back to crack town. She is truly pitiful. The Billie Holiday of our time.
I have been waiting on this album for sometime now. I known when it hit the road it will be the bom.
Why the hell would you put this awful picture up to represent her comeback. It is shameful and spiteful. She is not the first person to fall victim to drugs and she damn sure won’t be the last. The point is that she is starting fresh and she deserves the respect of having her new image displayed. She’s a beautiful, talented DIVA!! She’ll be standing long after many have fallen. Her voice is what I would think I might hear when I arrive in Heaven, that of an angel. You go Miss Whitney!! Knock ‘em out the box!!
Well, I’m a big whitney fan, n I knew she’d be back. All I have to say is I bought all her music regardless. And the new album “I look to you”, fantastic job u neva left n I know she would be back. She did a great job, salute is hot, n others. U still got it n the non believers, ha ha. The album is a different but what is playin now, but go buy n c for urself. Slow melodies, meanin ful lyrics. Listen to c what she’s been throug.. she deserve awards for album
Im very glad that Whitney is back again! We needed few notes of her beautiful voice
Welcome again, and from now on, never give up!
A year or so ago I began to pray for Whitney Houston. I believe that God put her on my heart. I used to enjoy her music and consider that she had an awesome gift. She has to abandon herself to God before she can really lose the baggage. Learn from CeCe or Cissy Whitney… but be assured that when you are sober and clean, there is always a place in our hearts, we will support your and your music. What you are doing is brave: build yourself up, don’t take anything, over time you will get stronger. Right now you are not there but with God’s help and the support of family and friends you will be. It was great, but God is more interested in what we are than what we do. The voice you once had has gone. Take a look inside and become what God has for you now.
she is the best the best best vocal what a powerful voice i am happy she is back
i cried when i found out whitney houston is coming to Australia to do some concerts…first one confirmed for Hunter valley at the hope estate winery. i’ve been on the Preferred Seating waiting list for tickets and got them today - 3 diamond vip tickets…so excited, been listening to classic whitney all day!!!!
.I remember seeing Whitney Houston about 20 years ago. She was a goddess on stage - fantastically beautiful, powerful, radiant, and could deliver a performance that was without comparison.
She wasn’t the best black vocalist on the planet, she was the best there was - nobody could even consider touching her status in the artform. She was unique, she could fill any venue anywhere to capacity. Wren tickets went on sale, they disappeared in minutes. Scalpers everywhere would invest in bulk purchases knowing that every ticket would be sold.
And then came the darkness, mired in the abyss of one of the most addictive narcotics ever created, crack cocaine.
I know that darkness, as I once was there myself. Eventually, I had to check myself into a no nonsense, serious 30 day live-in rehab facility. It wasn’t fun or easy - but every day I wake up and see sunlight and can go about my daily life, I feel blessed.
While in that facility, I was amazed at the variety of folks I encountered, from every imaginable ethnicity. background and profession.
Whatever Whitney does to get her life back, let’s give her a chance.
Will she be the Whitney that she once was? Probably not.
But will she be a Whitney we can give our support to? Absolutely yes.
I just hope and pray she doesn’t slip back into the darkness.
