Madeleine McCann Fancy Dress Outrage – Conservative Costume in Bad Taste
Young Conservative kicked out for dressing up as missing child Maddie McCann.
A young Tory boasted about dressing up as Madeleine McCann on his Facebook account.
A University of London student, Matthew Lewis, formerly the chairman of the Staffordshire Conservative Future, told friends he was looking for “pink pyjamas, a blond wig, a teddy bear and a phial of fake blood”, for an upcoming fancy dress do.
He intended dressing up as missing child, Madeleine McCann, as a sick prank for a fancy dress party.
On New Years Day, after the event, he seemed to question his lack of taste and decency when he posted this message on his Facebook wall: “There was a brief moment when I thought I might have gone too far with elements of the costume, but it was ok.”
Another comment from a friend in response was: “Is this a cunning Baldrick style plan to obtain the reward money?”
Lewis also stated that another guest at the party was dressed as Baby P, the toddler who died after a catalogue of horrific abuse recently.
Needless to say, his unbelievable behaviour has rightly afforded Lewis a dressing down and booting out from the Conservative party.
Mr Lewis’ inappropriate behaviour has been condemned by Tory chairman Caroline Spelman, who said of his behaviour “It is totally unacceptable” and confirmed he had in fact been expelled. “There is no place for this sort of person in the party.”
The spokesperson for Madeleine’s parents, Clarence Mitchell, “said the couple would be greatly hurt by the student’s sick joke”. He said: “The offensiveness of this activist’s actions is almost beyond belief.
“I know Gerry and Kate will be grateful that the Tory Party has taken swift and appropriate action by ejecting him from the party.
“It’s a complete disgrace that Madeleine’s name and image should be made fun of in this way.”
Since the incident, Lewis has apologised unreservedly to the parents of Madeleine McCann for his insensitive behaviour and incredibly bad taste.
Mr Lewis said: “I completely regret my behaviour that night and since, and cannot express how sorry I am for the incredible hurt I have caused”.
“Whilst my actions were not meant to be malicious, I fully understand the pain they have brought.”
Madeleine McCann, 4, disappeared whilst on holiday with her family in Portugal in May 2007. Her parents keep the faith and never give up hope that their daughter will be found alive and well. -

That’s just such bad taste dressing up as Madeline McCann as a fancy dress outfit. It does sound like he sort of regretted it the next day; that doesn’t change the fact that he went through with it though, and it’s definitely right that he has now been kicked out of the young conservatives. He just sounds like a bit of an idiot really.
I can’t believe there was another similarly sick person at the party though that dressed as Baby P. This gives the University of London such a bad name as well that such moronic people attend there.
People should just think a little more before they act sometimes; I’m sure if he’d thought about what he was doing a little harder then he would have realised it was a bad idea, unfortunately he didn’t though and he’s now foolishly had his name dragged through the press. Still; he’s got no one to blame but himself, and I bet he doesn’t feel so clever about his costume choice now.
fake blood or any aint no good how could you let the child down that way or jesus you of no faith or anyone else beleiving she’s unhurt. Its sad that your compared to Satan now they think of Satan they think of you almost cant tell the difference the way they talk about satan being a horrible person.
